Swadhaar focuses its operations on urban and semi-urban areas. Although most Indian cities have a well-developed formal financial sector and infrastructure, low-income households often lack the documentation and collateral necessary for formal credit. Swadhaar seeks to address this gap by making financial services available to economically vulnerable Indians living in metropolitan areas.

Headquartered in Mumbai, Swadhaar had 38 branches in operation as at December 31, 2010, across the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Over the next five years, the Company plans to expand further into western and central India.
