Swadhaar is born as the brainchild of two friends embarking on a journey together with a shared vision. Veena Mankar and Late Haseena Vahanvaty’s dream of providing financial access to poor and low income working women and entrepreneurs bears fruit. They choose to start work in the slums of Mumbai, a city both have lived in and love.
Swadhaar FinAccess, (SFA) is launched in Mumbai as a non-profit entity offering micro-credit. It is amongst the earliest initiatives in providing micro-credit to the economically active urban low income households as well as to micro-entrepreneurs in the country.
FinAccess commences operations as an urban microfinance institution. The very first loan is disbursed at the Kherwadi branch.
Swadhaar FinServe Pvt. Ltd., starts operations as a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC), taking over the micro-credit portfolio of FinAccess and subsequently converts to an NBFC-MFI.
Swadhaar Information and Management Services Commence business as a Business Correspondent for RBL Bank Ltd initially distributing micro-credit for joint liability groups (JLGs).
FinServe expands operations to Tamil Nadu with loans for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSMEs). FinServe also voluntarily de-registers its NBFC-MFI status, with Reserve Bank of India. It now operates as a Business Correspondent exclusive to RBL Bank, thereby enabling the provision of a full suite of financial products to its target segments.
